Ebu Press Ltd invites individuals to apply for the position of Editor-in-Chief for the Asian-Australasian Journal of Food Safety and Security taking over from Professor Dr. S. M. Lutful Kabir from January 2024. The Editor-in-Chief will lead an editorial team of Associate Editors.
About the Journal
Asian-Australasian Journal of Food Safety and Security (AAJFSS) is an international scholarly journal currently publishing research on food safety and security. We are seeking an Editor-in-Chief who will work with us to develop and expand the aims and scope of the journal to cover further areas of food safety and security research. We warmly welcome research from anywhere in the world and from a diverse range of authors. AAJFSS received the indexing including BanglaJOL, CAB Abstracts (CABI), Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), Crossref, Global Health (CABI), and Google Scholar. The journal is in the process of formulating a strategy and policies to secure indexing in databases such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), Scopus, and Web of Science (WoS). One of the primary responsibilities of the incoming Editor-in-Chief will be to develop or update policies aimed at enhancing the journal’s eligibility for inclusion in these databases.
The role of Editor-in-Chief for AAJFSS is a voluntary position. Given that AAJFSS is a non-profit journal, no compensation or honorarium will be provided to the Editor-in-Chief.
Qualifications
- PhD in food science, molecular food biology, food hygiene, food microbial ecology, food process systems design, food packaging technology, food toxicology, nutritional science, food safety and security or equivalent field required
- Previous experience in an international research journal, preferably in an editorial capacity such as Regional Editor, Associate Editor, Guest Editor, or a similar role, is highly desirable
- Applicants should hold the rank of Professor or Associate Professor at a reputable university
- Demonstrated history of academic and scholarly achievements, encompassing teaching, research, and scientific publications
- Evidence of expertise in research design, methodologies, statistical analysis, and adherence to research reporting standards within the field of food safety and security research
- Proficiency in critically assessing submitted manuscripts, overseeing the peer review process, making informed editorial judgments, and effectively mediating author rebuttals or disputes
- Outstanding organizational and communication capabilities, which encompass meeting deadlines, adept writing skills, and proficient presentation and public speaking abilities
- Robust interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholder groups and individuals across different career stages
- Familiarity with publishing content models and web-based manuscript processing systems is preferred
- Capable of collaborative teamwork with minimal supervision, while also demonstrating the ability to excel as an independent contributor
- A strong understanding of the inclusion criteria for COPE, DOAJ, Scopus, and WoS journal policies
- Establish or enhance a journal’s inclusion policy for these targeted databases and ensure the ongoing refinement of the journal’s policy in alignment with the requirements of indexing databases
- Be fluent in English with good writing ability
Editor-in-Chief (EIC) role and responsibilities
The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) holds the key responsibilities of offering editorial guidance and strategic management to the journal, steering its editorial course. In executing these duties, the EIC guarantees that the journal’s content aligns with its vision, delivers significant value to its readership, and upholds the utmost scientific standards and integrity. Moreover, the EIC oversees that the journal’s operations adhere to industry norms and uphold the highest ethical and publishing standards.
In overseeing and managing the content and operations of the journal, the Editor-in-Chief has the following specific duties:
- Collaborate closely with the Publisher, Managing Editor, Head of Publishing, and the broader editorial team to define the journal’s vision and establish priority areas
- Ensure that every article accepted for publication has undergone a thorough, impartial, and punctual peer review procedure
- Serve as the ultimate decision-maker, responsible for determining whether submitted materials should be accepted or rejected for potential publication, while also ensuring a consistent stream of high-quality content
- Supervise the Editors and monitor the execution of their designated roles and duties, including the coordination of the peer review process
- Sustain an engaged, highly regarded, and technically proficient Editorial Board comprised of individuals who represent a wide range of geographical, demographic, and cultural backgrounds, as well as possessing multidisciplinary expertise
- Secure the ongoing involvement of the Editorial Board in the journal’s activities by maintaining regular communication and conducting periodic assessments of board members’ contributions and performance
- Maintain adherence to established benchmarks for exceptional quality and ethical conduct in scholarly publications
- Recruit and retain capable reviewers with diverse fields of expertise to consistently participate in the peer review process, evaluating the technical merit of submissions
- Ensure that the journal’s content is both valuable to its readership and fosters growth in terms of journal usage and the number of submissions
- Establish clear, effective, timely, and courteous communication channels with authors, reviewers, editors, and journal staff
- Collaborate with editorial and publisher personnel to guarantee the punctual release of journal issues, implement effective marketing strategies, and streamline workflows throughout the production process
- Address publication ethics concerns and allegations of misconduct promptly, courteously, and confidentially, following established guidelines and best practices. For more serious matters, consult with the journal’s Publisher. It’s important to mention that AAJFSS will be a member of COPE and will adhere to COPE’s ethical guidance
- Collaborate with the Managing Editor to supervise the operations of the editorial office and manage various administrative functions associated with the journal.
Term of service
The selected candidate is anticipated to assume the position of Editor-in-Chief for an initial one-year term, commencing on January 1, 2024.
